Why is it important?

As global healthcare spending per capita falls, hospitals and their partners must find ways to improve process efficiency and make budgets do more with less. Most hospitals have a significant need to use energy for HVAC, hot water, lighting, ventilation, sterilisation and numerous clinical processes, all incurring significant associated costs and emissions.

These utility costs represent a large proportion of most hospital budgets. Whilst around 15% of the overall carbon footprint of health services is due to the energy consumed by buildings. Hospitals are under pressure to implement measures to improve energy efficiency while satisfying the requirements of these important processes and applications.

Steam is widely used to provide hot water for heating and domestic duties such as hand washing and cleaning, as well as for sterilisation services, and it is possible to make real and significant savings through a well-managed steam system, potentially removing thousands of tonnes of emissions per year through the application of established and innovative steam system technologies.

Our latest whitepaper covers:

  • Why hospitals need to target energy consumption
  • Steam in new and existing healthcare facilities
  • Clean steam for sterilization
  • Heating water using less energy
  • Closed systems achieve maximum energy recovery
  • Save energy and boost system performance with reverse osmosis
  • Decarbonisation of steam generation
  • Surveys and system audits
  • Maintenance services
